Do pregnancy and chiropractics go together?
Here are some thoughts from Dr. Jina Foltz at Revitalize Chiropractic, one of the Center’s supporters.

Pregnancy + Chiropractic is said to go together like peanut butter + jelly!

But why?

During pregnancy, your body goes through a tremendous amount of changes. The hormone relaxin is released, which relaxes the joints in the pelvis to ease labor and delivery.

Wait! There’s a catch: Relaxing doesn’t only affect the ligaments around the pelvis but also affects all the other ligaments in the body, causing there to be more joint play in all joints, which can lead to pain. This is where specific, prenatal, chiropractic comes in. Care during pregnancy reduces aches and pain and focuses on balance and alignment of the joints, hips and pelvis.

Prenatal chiropractic also focuses on the round ligaments, which are rope-like bands of connective tissue that support the uterus from the front of the belly and can cause cramping in the hip and groin area with sudden movements.

When an expecting mom is more comfortable during her pregnancy, she is able to move more, stay active, and her energy is much higher, which means that she enters labor more empowered and feeling good. And, in postpartum, her chances of recovering faster are higher!

When choosing a chiropractor, ask if he or she is certified in the Webster Technique, a specific technique that focuses on the expecting mother and the specific nuances of pregnancy.

But What about the Babies?

Why would you get your baby adjusted by a chiropractor? Babies sometimes have dramatic entrances to this world. Depending on that entrance (AKA birth) they may have restric

tions that affect their nervous systems. Reasons to take your baby to see a pediatric-focused chiropractic are

1. Better digestion (less chances of reflux, colic, constipation)

2. Better mobility (happier with tummy time, less torticollis, fewer flat heads)

3. Better sleep (more comfortable babies sleep better)

4. Better latch (more comfortable at the breast or bottle).
