We’re Built to Grieve a Loss

It’s important to give yourself grace and space to navigate life after the loss of your child. Truly there is no right or wrong way to feel. Even numbness is a feeling and often accompanies the loss of a baby.

Some women need to remember their baby by talking often about him or her. Some mothers struggle talking about their baby at all. Depending on personality, some women feel overwhelmed emotionally and express it, while others are simply numb and unresponsive to the subject.

It’s not surprising to experience a variety of different moments and seasons as your grief processes through your heart and soul. Your life and your loss are unique to you, so try not to compare yourself to others.

Finding Ways to Remember Your Baby

Honoring and remembering your baby can provide a healing comfort that helps to sew up the deep wound you may be experiencing.

Some families have found comfort through:

  • Naming their baby
  • Lighting a candle
  • Writing a letter or poem
  • Planting a tree or flowers
  • Creating a memorial space
  • Participating in a remembrance event

Maybe these ideas connect with you or maybe you have a unique way to honor your little one’s memory. No one way is right or wrong. Give it some thought and see what idea gives you peace.

A Loving Tribute: A Special Evening of Remembrance

October is Pregnancy Loss Awareness Month, and Sarasota Medical Pregnancy Center hosts a tender event called A Loving Tribute, a gentle and meaningful evening designed to honor those tiny lives lost in very early life.

This special event includes:

  • A welcoming and supportive environment
  • Music and encouragement
  • A memory board where babies’ names may be displayed
